Camping with a baby

Last weekend we attempted our first camping trip with our little one! We were nervous that Millie would have a rough time...but she did awesome! She loves the outdoors, plus being outside wore her out;) Here are some tips on making your camping trip with a baby go smoothly!

  1. Bring a Pack-n-Play! This was such a lifesaver!! It was so nice to be able to put Millie down and not worry about her getting dirty. It was also nice to use it for naps, instead of having her sleep in a hot tent.
  2. Invest in a Little Buddy heater! We bought one for this camping trip because I was worried millie would bet really cold at night, considering that we were in the desert! It was worth every penny! I love that it was quiet and the light coming off the heater was like a night light which was awesome! It kept us pretty warm!
  3. Bring a Bumbo or a portable high chair! I love that the Bumbo is light, portable and doesn't take up much room. I also loved that we didn't have to hold millie while trying to feed her!
  4. WATER WATER WATER!! If your baby is old enough to sit up, they are old enough to drink water! we brought Millie's sippy cup with us to make sure she stayed hydrated!
  5. SUNSCREEN! Make sure you apply sunscreen on your baby every 2 hours! Babies have new sensitive skin so it's important to protect it. Plus It would not be fun for a baby to have a sunburn!
  6. Make sure you try to keep to a nap time schedule! Millie get's really grumpy if she doesn't get a good nap. It was a little tricky to get her to take a nap when we were outside all day..but we made sure she at least got a few good naps!
  7. Bring a sun hat! just like sunscreen, It's important for babies to wear a sunhat. Especially during the hottest part of the day! It protects their head and eyes from the sun! I found Millie's from Wal-Mart for $4!
  8. Bring a baby carrier! Especially if you are going to go on hikes! We brought our Ergo Baby 360 carrier, I love how you can wear it 4 ways!
  9. Bring extra clothes, diapers and wipes...it's better to be over prepared rather than under prepared!
  10. HAVE FUN!! Start making fun memories while they are little so they grow up loving camping!
